Section One - Default Email Forwarding and Spam
Rather than find a list of working email addresses, spammers will often just send to a huge number of randomly generated email addresses. Since they can send to so many of them, they can send enough that some of the addresses will actually be valid and reach someone. The practice of catch-all or default email forwarding makes this method more effective.

Catch-all email forwarding, also called the default mailmap, is often used for domains which are registered but not used for very much, for example in reserve for a future project or held for legal or trademark reasons. It is also useful to those who simply want all the email sent to one address and do not need separate mailboxes under the domain. While allowing people to send to any address in the domain is convenient, it can often result in a greater level of spam getting to that mailbox.

Domains using easyDNS will often have default email forwarding enabled if they are on Free Parking service or DNS-only without a mailserver to handle email for the domain. If you are receiving an unacceptable amount of spam and think it may be due to default email forwarding through easyDNS, you will want to login to the member page and click the "email" link beside your domain name to see how email for the domain is being handled.
