Once you have done this the domain has been added to the system and the registrar transfer is ready to be submitted. An invoice for the service fee is generated and emailed to you, as well as being available in your account. A registrar transfer automatically adds a year of registration to the domain when it completes, so the invoice for one year's registration (and DNS service, if applicable) must be paid before the transfer is submitted. If you have requested a transfer which did not go through, the first thing to check is to make sure you have paid the invoice.

Once the invoice is paid and the transfer request is submitted, the registrar you're transferring to sends an email to the admin contact of the domain asking them to confirm the transfer. If this confirmation does not get completed the transfer cannot go through, so if your registrar transfer seems delayed and you have paid the invoice you will want to look up the whois record of the domain to make sure the admin contact email address is correct.

If you find that the admin contact's email address as listed on the whois record is incorrect, either old or with a typo or some other problem, you will need to contact the registrar you are transferring away from to correct the problem. Since the whois record can only be managed through the registrar, and transfers must be confirmed by the admin contact, the domain owner will have to update the email address through the current registrar before the transfer to the new registrar can begin.

If an authorization code is required you will need to contact the domains current registrar and request that it be sent to you.
