Section Two • Delegation of the IP range

The first thing that will need to be done to get reverse DNS working is to have the IP range delegated to our nameservers at the ISP. It is best to deal with this first as you will need to contact the ISP to find out exactly what the IP range you are working with, and can just have them do the delegation at the outset. So the first thing to do is contact your ISP to delegate the IP range as shown below for our example IP range.




The top section containing the names of the easyDNS nameservers is the actual delegation information, the Cnames indicated below that are needed to allow for different ways of representing the IP. This information will be available in detail for your IP range once you add it to our system, but the ISP should understand what you mean when you contact them.

The information you will need from the ISP is the format they are doing the delegation in, as well as the CIDR or in-addr-arpa notation of the IP block you are given. The delegation needs to be in one of the 4 formats below.
