Section One • How email forwarding works 1/2

Email forwarding makes use of the same process as regular email delivery, but adds a step in the middle. The email address you will have people send to will be an alias under the domain name you have setup on our system, such as account@easydns-example.com. You will receive and send email through your usual account, such as example@isp.com, and our system will forward email to the destination account.

Now, when someone emails the domain name address, they send the message to the easydns.com mailservers. Our servers receive the email and look for the "mailmap", which is the record of the email address you have indicated we are to forward to, and send the email to the destination account. The message is received by the mailservers for that account and is from that point dealt with as usual.
