Section Two • Creating Cnames

Cnames point a host to another host rather than an IP, and unless you have a number of different functions going through the same domain you probably won't need to worry about them. The one you will see there by default should be left alone, since what it does is point the www version of your domain to the same place as the domain itself, so that www.easydns-example.com and easydns-example.com both go to the same place.

If you do have several functions through your domain, and more than one of them run off the same IP, you can use Cnames so that if the IP changes you only have to make the change for one host and the rest will pick it up. You create an A record for the main host, and then enter the name of that record in the "Points to A record" field. In the "Cname (alias)" field you enter the name you want pointed to that host.

When all the records are set up correctly, click "next" under the Cname section to continue.
