Becoming an easyDNS member

Whether you want to register a new domain, transfer your existing domain to easyDNS™, or just sign up for free, the first step is to become an easyDNS™ member.

On the main page and on the signup page, you will see the following form:

signup form

If you want to register a new domain, check off the first box (as shown above) and enter the domain name you wish to register in the space provided. If you want to transfer an existing domain, check off the second box and enter your existing domain name in the space provided. If you just want a free membership, check off the last box and leave the space for a domain name blank.

Once you have made one of the above three choices, click on the next button to proceed to the next stage.

If you are registering a new domain, we will check to see if your chosen domain name is still available. If it isn't, we'll let you know and offer you some alternative names. You can pick one of them, or try a different name. If you are transferring an existing domain name, we will check to make sure you typed in the domain name correctly before proceeding.

Next, regardless of which choice you just made, we need to collect some personal information for you. If you are registering or transferring a domain, we need this to facilitate your registration or transfer. If you are signing up for a free membership, we need this information to keep you updated of easyDNS™offers and new services. easyDNS™ does not sell or make this information available to third parties. This is what the form looks like:

Fields marked with an asterisk * are required.

The top section should be fairly self-evident. However, please don't use any characters with accents (such as é or ü) or special characters (such as ß or ): these will cause problems when it comes to registering or transferring a domain name. Also, if you don't know your NIC handle (or even what a NIC handle is), then don't worry and just leave that section blank.

You'll also need to pick a username and password to access the member section of easyDNS™. Your username can be anything, but most people use their initials, or a combination of their first initial and last name, like jsmith. Your password should be between 3 to 8 characters. Try to pick something that is easy for you to remember, but hard for other people to guess. Remember, your password is case-sensitive, so upper and lower case letters matter. We ask for your password twice to make sure you entered it correctly. If you forget it, there is no way for us to figure out what your password is; we can only issue you a new one.

Finally, we ask you to provide us with a secret question and answer. If you ever forget your password, we will ask you this question. If you can supply us with either your username or one of your domain names, and then answer your secret question correctly, we can assign you a new password. Again, your question and answer should be something that's easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess. For example, your question might be What is my mother's maiden name?, or What color is my hamster?

Once you have completed the form, click on the next button. If you've filled out all the required fields and there are no errors, congratulations! You are now an easyDNS™member! You are then prompted to log in to your member's page (using the username and password you just picked). From there, you can continue your registration of a new domain name, or transfer of an existing domain ... or just explore!
