Email Aliasing
Introduction
Historically, when a new DNS-only or parked domain was added to the system, we automatically provisioned the domain with an active catch-all mailmap, which would forward all email addressed for anything at that domain to the member's email address in their member profile.

This industry practice has been very much abused by spammers, who carry out what are known as "dictionary attacks" on domains, where they simply forward multitudes of junk mail addressed to random addresses within a domain which are then forwarded via the catch-all email map to the easyDNS member.

Because of this practice, we no longer provision domains with this feature turned on. Users can now select from 3 different email options for their parked domains, including enabling the catch-all mailmap, having email for the domain bounced, or creating up to 5 specific email aliases which deliver to one specified email address. This last option allows the domain owner to receive messages to certain important addresses, such as webmaster or info, without leaving the domain open for dictionary attacks.

Creating Aliases
To set the email delivery for your domain, you first need to click the "email" link to the right of your domain name on the member page.

This will bring you to an interface giving you the options for email delivery. The interface shown below is for parked domains, domains on DNS-only will have a 4th option, to use the MX record in the DNS settings, but are otherwise the same. To set up email aliasing first select the radio button beside "Enable Aliasing".

You then enter the address you want email forwarded to in the top field, and the aliases you want forwarded in the bottom fields. The email addresses you create in the lower fields will be forwarded to the address indicated above, and email sent to any other addresses at your domain will bounce.

Once you have entered this information click "next" to get to a page which shows you the forwarding you are about to create.

This page shows you the email aliases at your domain pointing to the actual address they will forward to. You can click the "back" button to change any errors you may see, but if all the information is correct click "next" to confirm the email alias.

The forwarding will take effect once you click next and the email aliases are confirmed.
